Eckington is located in NE DC, south of Prospect Hill and Glenwood Cemeteries, southeast of Howard University, and exactly one mile north of the US Capitol. Eckington is characterized by a mix of Victorian and Federal-style houses, as well as brightly colored, two-level homes with porches and small front yards. You may have seen these homes in the opening credits of House of Cards. Eckington has become a popular, affordable alternative to better known communities such as Shaw and Logan.
In March of 2016, the Washington Business Journal reported that the JBG and Boundary Companies plan to construct Eckington Yards, a massive mixed-use development modeled after New York City's Meatpacking District. The development, which will span four connected buildings on a 3.1 acre site, will feature a total of 695 residential units and over 75,000 square feet of retail.
